Today saw the completion of this new Celtic knot work leg wrap tattoo, forming the look of a shin guard known as a greave in medieval armor. It began with one knot, taken from an Irish high cross gravestone, that was then multiplied, interwoven, and morphed to fit the leg.

"The Dymaxion map or Fuller map is a projection of a world map onto the surface of an icosahedron, which can be unfolded and flattened to two dimensions. The flat map is heavily interrupted in order to preserve shapes and sizes. The map was created by Buckminster Fuller. Today's tattoo is a flashback to the 1990's, when tribal ruled the tattoo world. I definitely developed my tattooing skills with those black graphic patterns. This woman's request was for a phoenix, but no low-rider flames, so I drew the body to mimic the movement of a flame, ribboning in flight.
