Celtic 'Serpent Dragon' Tattoo Completion

Today I did a second session on this ambitious leg, the first full wrap that I have designed that incorporates a creature. In the top level of knotwork a serpent dragon weaves in and out of the loops of the braid, adding a new level of complexity to the idea of a full leg wrap tattoo. It was begun a month ago and in that first session we designed it and completed just the lines. The photo of that first session is here: http://www.luckyfish.com/blog/celtic-serpent-dragon-calf-wrap-tattoo

Celtic Knot HorseShoe Tattoo

Today an equestrienne asked for a custom design I have been wanting to do for years, a Celtic knotwork horse shoe. Long regarded as a symbol of luck, since the time of Saint Dunstan in the 8th c it has been believed evil spirits will not enter a home with a horse shoe hung over the door. Hanging it with the arch at the top is believed to shower good luck, protective powers and good fortune on the home. Or, in this case, on the wearer!

Family Tree of Life Celtic Tattoo

Today a woman's request for this custom family tree of life became a tribute to her father, who recently passed away and is represented by the falling leaf. The leaves in the canopy represent her children, the continuing generation, and the roots her heritage. Woven into the roots is an infinity symbol, for the continuity of the family through the years.

Celtic Knot Bear Paw Tattoo

Today a client building a a complete leg of Celtic tattoos came in to install the next image on his list. We made up this custom knotwork bear paw to symbolize the strength and power inherent in the animal, transferring to him through this ancient method.

When bears mark their territory they claw as high as they can reach on trees. If a new bear comes by he will measure his height against the mark, and if a bigger badder bear already lives there he keeps moving on. Now he wears the mark of the bear.
