This beautiful knot appears in the Saint John section of the Lindisfarne Gospels (St John ff. 210v-211). At some time in the 700s the illuminated manuscript was created at Lindisfarne Priory, on what was known as the Holy Island. This knot is quite unique in that it has two distinct sets of parallels forming it, intricate and compelling. Representing the importance of three as the holy number both in Christian and Pagan theology.
