The Ocean Tattoo and the Wave Tattoo: Ride the Tides of Ink

Immersed in Ink: Inspiring Ocean Tattoo Ideas to Dive Into

When it comes to ocean-themed tattoo ideas, the possibilities are vast and diverse. Here are some ocean tattoo ideas that can serve as inspiration:

  • Wave Tattoo A classic choice, a wave tattoo captures the essence of the ocean's power and energy. It can be a simple, minimalistic design or a more intricate and realistic depiction of crashing waves.

  • Fish Tattoo Consider incorporating various marine creatures into your tattoo design, such as fish, dolphins, whales, sharks, sea turtles, or jellyfish. Each creature holds its own symbolism and can add depth and visual interest to your ocean-themed tattoo.

  • Mermaid Tattoos: Mermaids, half-human and half-fish, symbolize the allure and mystery of the ocean. Similarly, Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, represents strength and control over the watery depths.

  • Ship and Anchor Tattoos Nautical elements like ships and anchors are commonly associated with the ocean and maritime traditions. They can symbolize adventure, stability, or the seafaring lifestyle.

  • Compass Tattoos: A compass tattoo serves as a reminder of navigation and guidance. It can represent finding your way, exploring new horizons, and staying true to your path, even in the vastness of the ocean.

  • Shell Tattoo: Seashells are delicate and beautiful treasures found along the shorelines. They can represent the fleeting nature of life, a connection to the beach, or the calming influence of the ocean.

Remember, these ideas can serve as starting points, and you can always customize and combine elements to create a unique and personalized ocean-themed tattoo that holds special meaning to you.

Back Tattoo: Celtic Design in Two Variations

“With its vast expanse and endless possibilities, the back becomes a canvas for a timeless masterpiece—one that resonates with the collector's soul, tells their story, and leaves a lasting impression for generations to come.”

Version One: Celtic-Designed Back Tattoo, Back Tattoos for Women

Enraptured by the intricate embroidery adorning her childhood Irish step dance costumes, the woman who first commissioned this back tattoo wanted to display the deep connection to her roots. Serving as a poignant expression of her heritage and personal history, she now proudly bears this beautiful art. The original design, crafted by the gifted Welsh artist Jen Delyth, was adapted for this purpose, and sold with her permission.

In a second photo, we see the same woman 20 years later, as her body has matured and her back tattoo has adapted along with it. In the last two decades, she’s added tattoos on her upper arms representing fire and water.

Russian Sword Circle Celtic Tattoo

For the first time I was delighted to have the opportunity to tattoo a pattern by the amazing artist Artzamatsev Sergey from Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia. I have long admired his designs posted on Facebook, and now a client chose one of his drawings. It becomes an international collaboration.

The pattern is framed with a traditional Celtic knot circle, and two historically inspired swords, split to weave together in the middle. On the sword hilts and between them are small triquetras, completing the Celtic theme.

A strong warrior tattoo to depict the spirit of combat and conquest, here installed on the sword arm of a man who will wear it proudly.
